Dennis is opening the front door, greeting and letting Joey into his home.
dennis >
Mom was just readin' me a swell book... all 'bout George Washington, 'cause it's his BIRTHDAY this month.
joey >
Gee! You goin' to his party?
In this panel, Dennis mentions to Joey that it is George Washington's birthday that month. Joey then askes if Dennis will attend Washington's party.
dennis >
There is not gonna be no PARTY... he's been DEAD a long time!
joey >
Then how can he have a BIRTHDAY?
Dennis tells Joey that he cannot go to a party since George Washington has been gone for a while. Joey proceeds to ask Dennis how can he have a birthday then.
joey >
How can he have a BIRTHDAY if he's DEAD, Dennis?
dennis >
Well... uh... I... DUNNO!
Joey continues to press Dennis on how George Washington can have a birthday. Dennis admits that he does not know himself..

Anyways, he was real GOOD when he was a kid. He chopped down this cherry tree, an'...
joey >
NO!
Within this panel, Dennis begins to tell Joey of the story of George Washington cutting down the cherry tree, to which Joey reacts poorly.
dennis >
Yeah, but it was okay... he TOLD his Dad he did it, see? He didn't try to FIB, see? Get it?
joey
NO!
The story continues to be explained to Joey by Dennis, but Joey still does not appear pleased.
joey
How 'bout the poor TREE? He chopped it DOWN! He KILLED it!
dennis >
Hmm... yeah... how 'BOUT that?
Joey begins to yell and points out the "killing" of the tree that Washington did. Dennis has a hard time finding an answer to Joey's debate.
dennis >
Anyways, he was a STRONG kid! He threw a SILVER DOLLAR across this BIG river!
joey >
Why didn't he throw a ROCK??
Dennis starts to tell a story of Washington throwing a silver dollar across a river. Joey asks why he did not just throw a rock.
dennis >
HUH?
joey >
Why didn't he throw a ROCK? Dollars are MONEY!
Dennis is surprised at Joey's remark. Joey points out that Washington threw money instead of a rock.
joey >
I wouldn't throw away a WHOLE dollar... would YOU?
dennis >
Well... uh... no. Seems kinda SILLY, don't it?
Joey asks Dennis if he would throw a whole dollar away. Dennis denies that and mentions that it seems "silly."

Anyways, he got to be a GENERAL. See... he's crossin' a river in this BOAT to beat the BAD guys.
joey >
Why's he standin' UP?
Dennis tries to tell another story of Washington Crossing a river, being the Delaware River, to Joey. Joey then asks why he would be standing up.
dennis >
Heck, I dunno!
joey >
My Daddy says ya gotta sit DOWN in boats. They can tip OVER!
Joey mentions how his father tells him that you should not stand in a boat since they can tip over, which Washington is doing in the picture.
dennis >
Well... yeah...
joey
He mighta got DROWNED!
Joey begins to yell and points out that Washington could have possibly drowned.
dennis >
Well, he DIDN'T get drowned. He got to be the first President!
joey >
What's THAT?
Dennis relays why Washington could not have drowned since he became the first President. Joey asks what that is.
????
dennis >
The President's the guy who runs theWHOLE COUNTRY. An' Washington was the FIRST ONE!
Dennis tells how George Washington was the first President of the United States. However, Joey is confused.
joey >
Who run the country BEFORE him?
dennis
?
Joey questions of who was the leader of the country before the first President.

mother >
Oh... hello, Joey. Do you want to listen while I finish reading this book to Dennis?
joey >
Uh-UH!?
Dennis' mother walks into the living room and asks Joey if he wants to listen to her finish the book. Joey declines, shaking his head.
mother >
But it's very interesting... it's about George Washington. He was the Father of our Country!
joey
Who was the MAMMA?
Dennis' mother attempts to explain who Washington was, saying that he was the "Father of our Country." To this, Joey replies by asking who the "mamma" of the country was.
mother >
Well...er.. that is...
dennis >
Yeah... an' how can he have a BIRTHDAY when he's DEAD?
Dennis begins to question his mother's reasonings for Washington as well.
mother >
He's not HAVING a birthday... it's just that....
joey >
An' no BIRTHDAY PARTY?
Dennis'mother tries to explain that Washington isn't having a birthday. But, Joey interupts her asking why there isn't a birthday party.
Okay.
dennis >
C'mon, Joey... let's go out an' play.
Dennis' mother is shown sitting down, seemingly confused about what transpired. Dennis himself then tells Joey that they should go play outside.
END
dennis >
Y'know somethin'... sometimes I'm GLAD I can't read!
joey
Me, too!
Dennis and Joey are seen playing outside in the snow.
