Grampa Story

We do? Well, I'll fix that!
Granma is telling Grampa ("Stephen") that they have ants in there kitchen. Ants are seen traversing the kitchen counter.

Here's where the ants are coming from. This spray ought to get them.

Hello, children.
Grampa can be seen working in a kitchen cabinet finding where the ants are comeing from. The children walk in greeting their grandparents, with Granma greeting them in return.

What was ya doin', Grampa?

Getting rid of some ants.
child2 >
Ugh! I HATE ants!
The first child asks Grampa what he was doing when they came in. Grampa tells them both that he was getting rid of ants, with the second child replying that they hate ants.
grampa >
Oh, ANTS are REMARKABLE creatures. Did you know some of them keep 'COWS'? These are bugs that the ants take out to pasture, and bring home at night MILK!

Grampa tell the children that ants are remarkable creatures and that some keep "cows" too. The children are both astonished by this information from Grampa. A panel thought bubble can be seen appearing from the children showing seemingly what they are imagining this scenario looking like.

Then there are HARVESTER ants, that gather seeds and store them in barns underground.
child2 >
I guess they PLANT the seeds an' grow stuff, huh?
child1 >
Oh, sure!
Grampa continues to tell the children that ants can gatehr seeds and store thhem underground. A panel thought bubble can be seen appearing from the second child, showing what they are imagining this scenario looking like.
grampa >
No... but there ARE ants that grow MUSHROOMS to eat!
child1 >
Aw, c'mon, Grampa!
There is a thought bubble showing ants in a field harvesting mushrooms. Grampa continues to tell the children about ants.
grampa >
Oh, yes! And have you heard of CARPENTER ants, that build their nests inside trees?
child1 >
They have little HAMMERS an' SAWS, s'pose!
child2 >
Tee hee!
Grampa tells them of "carpenter" ants and how they build their nests within trees. The children imagine these ants having tools such as hammers and saws to create their homes.

And there are HONEY ants that gather a kind of honey. Some of these ants are like BARRELS, and hold all the honey for the rest!

Oh, boy!
Grampa tells the children of honey ants that gather honey and stores them for others like a barrel. A thought bubble panel shows the children imaginging the ants with barrel-like bodies giving honey out to other ants.

I s'poses there's ants that are SOLDIERS, too!
grampa >
Right! How did you know?
The first child begins to climb onto Grampa, assuming that there are also ants that are soldiers. Grampa confirms this thought and asks how they knew.
child2 >
An' I s'pose ants have QUEENS, too!
grampa >
Exactly! Every ant colony has a queen!
The second child believes that ants have queens, in which Grampa confirms. The first child seems to imagine what the queen ant would look like on a traditional throne for royalty.

And some ants capture OTHER ants and make them SLAVES to work for them!

Grampa tells the children that some ants make other ants they capture slaves that work for them. To which the children react seemingly both surprised and amused.

C'mon, Grampa... you're KIDDIN' us, aren't ya?

Why, no!

The children challenge their grandfather of whether he is telling the truth about the ants.
grampa >
Really... I'll SHOW you all those kinds of ants in the encyclopedia!
Grampa says that he will show the children these kinds of ants in the encyclopedia.

Grampa is looking for the children now, asking for them.
